Enjoy the best-loved music from film, pop, opera, jazz and the classical repertoire, all inspired by the power of the world’s seas, rivers, and oceans! This collaboration with The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk offers the fierce excitement of Wagner’s Flying Dutchman Overture and the vivid orchestral colors of Debussy’s La Mer performed alongside popular hits like Disney’s Under the Sea, Paul Simon’s Bridge Over Troubled Water and Kern and Hammerstein's Ol' Man RIver—all sung by Alvin Crawford. Our horn players Bryan Meyer and Daniel Shapiro are featured in Handel's "Hornpipe" from Water Music. Soloists Wendy Gerbier and Elizabeth Pojanowski add their voices to Offenbach's "Belle nuit, ô nuit d’amour" from Les Contes d’Hoffmann. We salute the greatest film composer of all time, John Williams, with his iconic JAWS Suite, and the greatest jazz composer of all time, Duke Ellington, with his gorgeous suite from The River. It's rare to get this dazzling variety of great music at a single symphony concert—you won’t want to miss it!
