Introduce your kids to the joy of classical music.
The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra (Not) Just For Kids program is a lively, fun and interactive program designed to be educational as well as entertaining. Members of the orchestra demonstrate their instruments, play for the children, and answer questions in hour long presentations. Throughout the season presentations are made for all instrument families: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. All programs end with attendees having a chance to hold and try to play a beginning level instrument in the “Petting Zoo”.

Saturday, October 18 | Strings/Violin Concerto
Join the musicians from the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra and learn about the String section of the orchestra! Our resident string quartet will give an interactive presentation for children ages four to ten and their families previewing the NSO's concert on October 25 featuring Midori, a world-famous violinist. What is a concerto? What makes it so special? Come and learn with us! The presentation will be followed by an Instrument Petting Zoo in which the children will have the opportunity to play the violin, viola or cello with a symphony member.
Saturday, November 15 | Winds, Holiday Music from Around the World
The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra presents Holiday Music from Around the World. Our resident wind quintet will give an interactive presentation of carols, pop tunes and other holiday music from every corner of the globe. A highlight will be selections from Handel's Messiah, which we invite you to sing with us on December 6 in our Messiah Audience Sing-Along. The presentation will be followed by an Instrument Petting Zoo in which the children will have the opportunity to play the recorder and learn how to make a sound on the flute.
Saturday, February 28 | Brass, Music in Space - Star Wars!
Space has long been a source of inspiration for music of all kinds, and the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra is also inspired! Join us as our resident brass quartet plays the theme from Star Wars and several musical treatments of the planets in anticipation of our Jupiter! Family Concert on Sunday, March 8 at 3pm.
Saturday, May 9 | Percussion & Meeting the Composer - Season Finale!
Meet the Composer! New York composer Michel Galante has composed a work just for us to celebrate our 75th anniversary! He will be bringing percussion instruments - which are a major element in his piece - to share the piece and talk about what it is like to compose. His piece will be receive its' world premiere on Saturday, May 9 in our season finale. The children in the audience will have an opportunity to be part of a rhythm band as they learn the rhythms in the piece.
